The Saudi’s have been desalinating seawater since the 1950’s. I remember a 60 Minutes episode decades ago with the original team doing a segment on the Saudi desalination program as a round about way to criticize California. In hindsight I’m guessing the Governor must have been a Republican at the time.
They always use the excuse of “the technology isn’t there” but big cruise ships have giant desalination plants on board.
