I'ma gunna disagree with the universal, jubilant damning of the CCP, even as I don't like a lot of what communism stands for.
What a load of crap propaganda fueling hatred of the other.
One of the issues is that China offers far better interest-terms on the loans for building infrastructure, that is charged to poor countries. This infuriates the Western financial sector. How dare the Chinese offer better terms than the West?
Another issue is this: A casual name for the Belt and Road Initiative is "The New Silk Road" . So my point here, is that the Silk Road functioned for millennia. Putting a MagLev rail in those countries, and hospitals etc., will revitalize trade that has been left languishing in favor of Sea Traffic, which was controlled by navies from the West. Countries in the center of the Asian land-mass suffered in those conditions, if they did not have a port. But there they were, sitting on ancient trade routes, so why not make rail happen for them?
As an example, Cambodia, whose economy was ruined via bombing campaigns, by USA, during and after the Vietnam War, was finally offered Chinese help through BRI ten years ago, and they are arguably faring much better now. Yet, Americans are warning against the debt-trap:
Check also the counter-argument comment, from a Cambodian, in the same article:
“In the case of Cambodia, concerns over possible debt traps and debt diplomacy associated with the BRI appear to be misplaced, even after factoring in the effects of the pandemic,” Jayant Menon, a former lead Asia Development Bank economist now at Singapore’s ISEAS, wrote.
As an aside, and as a geopolitical comment, since Hong Kong was repatriated to China (and that event should justifiably have happened after the shady way it was made a vassal of the UK, post-Opium War), the West has been scrabbling to re-claim their naval supremacy, and this video is yet another example of it.
Also, the communist party of China is not the only player here, just saying. There is BRICS, which is increasingly important, and makes decisions as a bloc, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
I am not saying that Chinese government is corruption free, but please remove the plank from the USA eye, before trying to remove the splinter in China's eye.
So, when watching this sort of video, realize there is an agenda that is being pushed.
