Denmark's Queen Margrethe II abdicates

Denmark's Queen Margrethe II will abdicate on January 14 next year after 52 years on the throne, she announced during her traditional New Year's Eve speech.

There's a rumour Fredrick was having affair on Tasmania's princess Mary. Princess Mary will be Denmark's first born overseas queen.

I wonder if the queen was forced into resignation because of this affair and she knew if she didn't step down the affair would make Frederick forfeit the throne and not keep it in the family. Not sure on their royal rules research needed.
