war is certainly hell, but this smells of Soviet propaganda... guys name was Evgeny Stepanovich Kobytev, and he was 31 years old at the start of the "great" war.

I'm betting the "younger" pic is much younger than 31, and that the "older" pic is after suffering starvation because he was a POW for a good part of the war.
