Surely they designed some method for the batteries to warm themselves up so they can accept a charge. Surely even if they were near totally discharged they implemented some way for the charger, once plugged in, to generate heat to do this. Even the weakest Supercharger is 72 kilowatts. One WATT is 3.4 BTU/hr, so that supercharger can crank out 250,000 btu/hr. As a point of reference my parent's just got a new furnace and it's 60k btu/hr. Obviously they're not going to create a heater anywhere near that size.

It does seem odd. I mean a smart guy like Musk surely would have foreseen this issue prior to building and selling these things?
Unless that's maybe 'the point'??
Maybe it was user error or maybe the temperature just exceeded whatever their design temp was.
...my parent's house just got a new furnace...
Fixed it for ya! (Which parent?)

It is entirely correct to say my parents gained possession of a furnace, therefore it is entirely correct to say they got a furnace.
My biological mother and father. They have been married, solely to one another, since two years before my birth.
