Holy Father, I will always remember what Your late earthly vicar, John Paul II, said to the crowd on his election day: « Non abbiate Paura »: « Don’t be afraid ». Fear, uncertainty and doubt are the Devil’s weapons of choice. French King Louis XIV also used to say « Gouverner c’est prévoir »: « To govern is to anticipate ». So I pray more than ever that You bless us with the focus we need to anticipate properly and serenely in order to defeat the Devil in his effort to collapse our civilisation.

Today we celebrate Pontianus of Spoleto.
Pontianus was a young man from a local noble family of Spoleto, 18 years of age, who had been denounced as a Christian to the Roman authorities. Brought before a judge named Flavian, he chose torture and death rather than renounce his faith. He was condemned to death and beheaded on 14 January 175.
