Why Cold Weather Kills a Tesla - and Every Other EV on the Market
Tesla owners in Chicago recently faced a significant issue when their vehicles were left dead, completely unable to charge in the frigid subzero temperatures, highlighting the fact that cold weather is a major Achilles' heel for electric vehicles (EVs).
I unfortunately work on postal vehicles. The VMF we are contracted with is doing everything they can to avoid switching to electric or any of thebnew vehicles they are getting. They dont want them. Theyd rather try to keep as many of the llvs running as they can.
Today ill be pulling 3 motors/transmission out of 3 junkers to be put into 3 they are trying to save. Some point next week, ill be pulling the frames out of the 3 junkers to put under 3 that have bad frames.
"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. EV postal vehicles on a cold day, however..."
LLV...haven’t heard that term in a long time. One of my first jobs was a product engineer for the lighting company that designed and produced the angled lights for the LLVs. At a seven degree angle on the rear and fenders so had to adjust the lens photo metrics to meet the FMVSS108 vehicle lighting standards.
Those vehicles are old. 30+ years!!
Are they still based on the Chevy S10 truck platform?
Well they were only made from 1986 to i think 1994. So yes. They are actually s10 blazer rear frame section with a narrowed s10 2wd pickup front section running astro van rear ends.
There were some ford ones.those were based on the explorer chassis.mostly 2wd but had a few 4wd. With a 4.0 v6. Peppy little bastards. The ford ones have a fiberglass 1 piece flip nose.
Interesting.
Thanks for the reply.
No mail when it gets cold. Awesome.
So much for that "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds"
Cold weather never came up in all the meetings about starting an EV fleet. This is a complete surprise. Executives are baffled.
Apparently neither did the massive power infrastructure requirements to support a centralized fleet of EVs.
the post office that has been losing money so we have to keep raising the price of stamps? They have money to gamble on vehicles that don't work if the weather isn't great?
Why deliver mail on Saturday could never understand that
When the public doesn't want what the dictators demand then they make us pay for it anyway tonkeep their dumb ideas afloat.
They also do it with stoopid books leftist writes that nobody wants.
i'm waiting for the prez motorcade to go EV.
I don’t remember the city that mothballed their battery plow trucks.
Now talk about a bonehead woke buying spree that was!!
