When the Enigma code was cracked, they couldn't use this knowledge to stop every Axis attack.
They learned about an upcoming bombing of some city, but rather than stop it--thus letting the Axis know their code had been broken--the bombing was allowed to happen.
Keeping the fact that they'd broken it SECRET allowed them to save MORE lives in the long-term.
Had they stopped it early, they'd just come up with a new code, and we're back to square one.
That’s my point… Yes, yes, yes everybody knows what’s going on. Everyone. But they keep doing it anyway 🤦♀️
