That may be. However, do you know what data about you is being sold? Do you know who it's being sold too? These companies need to be transparent and they should get permission at the very least. Maybe it's in the fine print but I doubt it.

That's the thing about selling data.
If someone spams me when I know I didn't ask for it. Their brand reputation is destoryed in my mind forever.
So it becomes worthless.
As people become more educated. It's going to become harder to use data.
