Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Yesterdays adult Sunday School lesson is in 2 Chronicles 20:13-20. I thought it fitting that this tells me of things to come, although it happened in King Jehoshaphat's day.
All the men of Judah, with their wives and children and little ones stood there before the Lord. (All of them came out in FAITH to see what the Lord was going to do to help them.)
Then the Spirit of the Lord came on Jahaziel son of Zechariah.
He said, "Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all those who live in Judah and Jerusalem, this is what the Lord says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army, for the battle is not yours, but God's.'
Tomorrow march down against them, they will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel.
You will NOT have to fight this battle. Take your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.
Jehoshaphat bowed down with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down in worship before the Lord. (Worship God in all things.)
Then some Levites stood up and praised the Lord, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice.
Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, 'Listen to me, Jauday and the people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.'
These people won this battle without drawing any real sword, other than the sword of the Spirit , which is the word of God along with the helmet of salvation. They had the belt of truth around their waists and the breastplate of righteousness upon them. Their feet were firm with readiness which comes from the gospel of peace. And before they left they took up their shield of faith which extinguished all flaming arrows from the evil one.
The lesson to this scripture is they had faith in the Lord BEFORE they left to face their enemy. We too must remember that. Although when this battle starts for us, we too will be afraid, but we must stand firm and hold the line. And then we will watch and see the deliverance of the Lord come upon us. Stay safe and stay in the word. The Lord is with us always.
Thanks for sharing. The adult Bible sounds wonderful, and is something I've attempted in the recent past, but just don't have the time to keep going right now. Not happy about that.
I enjoyed the lesson, second hand, from you. 🙏
You're welcome. I don't normally write out an entire text of scripture, but after Sunday's lesson it seemed to fit in with what is going on now. I even said that in class and a couple other adults agreed when I said, "I believe we may all be standing together soon to face our enemies just like this." That's when it struck me that I should put this on here.
