Wait—is this checkpoint even legal? I pulled over, unlocked my phone for the officers, and then immediately five other cop cars appeared with lights blazing! The Officer in charge asked to download my memes, then he DEPUTIZED me and he even gave me his cool police hat before sending me on my way!

Curious if it has to be plugged in or can just work remotely. Expecting it needs to be plugged in. Also wonder what the difference is between Android and Apple with these devices.
I used to use a cellebrite machine back in the day. It worked on old dumb phones. I'm sure security is much better now, but we already know everything with a chip in it has a backdoor so 🤷
There were lawsuits filed over the cops doing that. From what i recall, the cops were simply walking up to cars during traffic stops, and remotely yoinking data out of peoples phones without a warrant- which is what prompted the lawsuits.
