Even In Jesus' day, It was the most 'religious' of the day, both Religious in form - Saduccees (who did not believe in the resurrection to come) and the Religious in legalism (some but not all) Pharisees who were the instigators behind evil and injustice. Most of the common people loved Him... (BTW, there were two notable exceptions among the Pharisees, Joseph of Aramathea, and Nicodemus, who ensured a noble burial after his death.)
We are discovering that this is true in other faiths as well - "Those who you would most trust" Catholic priests, Protestant pastors, Orthodox Jews, and others (Hamas, for Muslims) have betrayed the people and looked out for their own interests, often at the expense of many other's interests. This also applies to the non-religious; the scientific community as well has an unearned trust base. Schools still teach 'Zombie Science', using out-dated images, (Jonathan Wells calls them Icons, because they are a mythos, not based on actual science:

Yes, the on-going exposure of corruption and evil is very necessary and is bringing us closer to the tipping point -- with a better world on the other side.
I pray that this will be so, and we will get at least some good years before the Anti-Christ makes it all a mess again.
The less forcible government and more freedom we end up with, the more likely we are to prevent (or at least greatly delay) the blossoming of evil that we've repeatedly experienced.
