What he really means is: he's pissed she released the tape before he did.

What isn't he telling us? They both recorded the conversation. Lake didn't play along and "name a number", so he could use it to blackmail her down the road, when it looked like she was going to win.

I wonder how many other basically decent nascent citizen statesmen fell for the same trick?
