Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.

In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Update on my Carnivore journey. (( Not posted to lure anyone into this journey. Wanted to share update because even though the food changes and habits have changed I don’t think I would be successful with out God giving me the strength.))
When I started this my number one goal was weight loss and if I benefited in other ways that’s great. I didn’t go into to this thinking it’s for life. I still can’t say if it’s forever but I’m more convinced that might be best for me.
• started 12/27
• lost 13 pounds (it’s very repid and it might not be for everyone)
• hubby has lost 20 pounds. He’s better with discipline.
for the first time since I was a teenager I’m NOT:
• eating at night or several hours before bed • fasting at least ten hours or more • eating sugar or bread • not hungry in between meals.
Improvements in daily life
• more physically active in house duties than I’ve been in ten years.
• I used to do crafts, cleaning etc at night and during the day. I’ve had the desire for years, especially crafts, but couldn’t get motivated to actually do anything.
• sleeping better but not perfect yet. A few nights of insomnia. However on days following my body doesn’t require long naps to make up for sleep loss. Still active on those days.
(hubby says he has lots more energy. It shows he’s been doing work in the house. Small kitchen remodel, moving furniture, wiring and electronics around in the den. I’m talking moving wiring in the wall and ceiling. He knows what he’s doing but it’s laborious.)
Yes, I have cheated occasionally nothing to severe. I am human and a very stubborn one. Also, it’s hard to go from eating such variety and then go to no condiments or bread for burgers, wraps etc. (some condiments are ok but it’s not strict carnivore, dirty carnivore) After a week I tried ketchup on a plain burger and couldn’t eat it. It tasted like a tangy sugar. They say your desire for non carnivore foods will eventually go away. I have been eating burger bowls with less than tsp of avocado mayo, dill pickles and mustard. Yesterday mayo touched my finger and I liked it off. It had a strong chemical taste. I’ll probably lay off mayo, had it three times since beginning. Unfortunately sweets still taste amazing. That’s probably my brain telling me it’s great. Can’t explain this like I heard it. When you eat sweets (even artificial) it’s a different part of your brain that thinks it tastes good. Basically it’s how we become addicted.
We have eaten things that aren’t healthy and certainly not on the diet. He wanted Mexican weeks ago and we got chimichangas (covered in melted cheese). I don’t eat the salad with toppings. Prefer peco or plain avocado with Mexican. As soon as we left I felt terrible in my gut and was burping a lot! The mistake was trying more than one food that’s not from an animal. I don’t know what gave me the gas. Lesson learned! On a family weekend at the coast we both stuck to it slightly. Ate less meals and no snacks between. Did have sister shuberts cinnamon rolls because I had them in the freezer and wanted them gone. Most things I through out and lots of things like pasta, canned tomatoes & olives I’m saving for my daughter when she needs them.
At the beginning I was probably higher percentage keto than carnivore. Occasionally I ate avocado, olives & hummus.
I’m still eating dairy and that’s a no or a yes depending on who you listen to. I’m not buying more when it’s gone. I still have allergies and chronic pain that require either medication or herbs. I’d like to know if dairy is causing it.
Tomorrow is my grandbaby’ birthday and party this weekend. I’ll be eating off the plan but not go off the rails completely. I’m cooking her a birthday cake for the very small evening celebration tomorrow with her parents and other grandparents.
I still want pizza and basically anything Italian but know it’s not a weekly or even monthly thing I need.
YouTube videos have been very helpful with this new way of eating. Apparently there’s a small percentage of people that’s been eating carnivore for 5, 10, 15, 20 and plus years. I never knew it existed until November 2023 and started studying it. Jordan Peterson, wife and daughter are on the plan. His testimony is what got me digging into this. Several videos about this in addition to every day people.
Congratulations Sister!! Thirteen pounds is a lot. I always say going in the less direction is a big deal. 🥳❤️
Some YT channels for motivation on carnivore diet: Dr Chaffee, Homesteadhow, Bill Nott, Steakandbuttergal.. I'll do a link list tomorrow
Thanks I’m slowly finding people. I’ve watched Dr Berry & Dr Chaffee. Just found Steak and butter gal. It’s something about her I don’t like. I’m not implying she’s not knowledgeable. Either it’s her or the format. It’s kinda like a podcast set and I can’t stand that. Also, Dr Berry’s wife is pretty good but she’s more keto than carnivore. I’m thinking I might end up keto eventually but want to get lots of weight off first. Then again I don’t know. I love going to grocery and only shopping meat & dairy. I know when spring and summer comes I’ll want fresh local fruit and tomatoes. We will see for know day by day.
That's the key: Take it day by day. I think you hit it on the nail.
I'm the same way. Just doing strictly carnivore for now to shed the weight (but I know I can't when travelling/vacation), having one steak a day, sometimes chicken drumsticks (because they're cheap, $4 by the dozen at my local) and cold cuts on the side in case of emergency. And eggs, bacon for breakfast. I no longer feel hungry or have cravings, but still do feel on edge at times when keto is high and too much coffee. I can't give up the heavy cream for my coffee/tea but tried using the minimal.
By the way, have you tried the keto urine strip? It is quite helpful as you can test it and become more aware of how you feel during certain stages. I got the cheap one for 10 bucks 150 strips and they work just as well as the expensive ones.
I agree steakandbuttergal seems abit phony/over the top, but some of her info are good and a good motivation.
