Think of a teenager, or a young adult who has no interest in politics. All they've ever heard is that Russia and Putin are evil. If you had an opportunity to explain to them why the war is happening - what would you say?

For decades, two eastern provinces of Ukraine have been largely populated by Russian-speaking people, that area having been part of old pre-Soviet Union Russia. Since WWII, certain Ukrainians of the Nazi persuasion have been attacking and disenfranchising those Russian-speaking people. In the meanwhile, Ukraine became the most corrupt nation in Europe, home to money launderers worldwide and human trafficking.
Russia (Putin) finally said, "Enough!' and invaded Ukraine (its former land) to rid the two provinces of Nazi forces and protect Russian interests there.
That is as simple as I can make it.
Yep, and maybe throw in something about the US led coup in 2014 and how it only made things worse, but not for Biden though lol.
Again, keeping it as simple as possible for the first lesson. Secret labs, the 2014 coup, Biden interference in their justice system, money laundering.... all for later discussions with the uninitiated. It's like teaching kids in school... you don't start off with calculus, you start with the ABC's and basic geometric shapes and making words with the alphabet. That won't get you very far in our complex world, but it's where you have to start with (as Rush used to say) "kids with skulls full of mush."
Thanks! I see you didn't even mention the bio-labs. Might scare the kid off with that info.
Well, you might toss that in too, but you did say keep it simple, so.... Maybe that would be for a later, follow-up conversation. Baby steps at first, because even that simplified explanation will take some doing to get his / her head around.
Well done 🐸, well done.
