Richard Pryor was one of the writers... It is hilarious and Harvey Korman deserved an Oscar...

Pryor was originally slated to play Sheriff Bart, but due to his cocaine problems in the news at the time, they decided to go with Cleavon Little. And the rest is cinematic history.

In certain respects this is the greatest comedy film ever made.
