Indoor hydroponics are great for green leafy vegetables, but not so great for vining type fruits and veggies (squash/zucchini/melons). I've seen strawberry varieties work ok that aren't the vining kind. For super limited space growing sprouts is a good idea. They don't even need special lights. Cannabis also grows well indoors. You know, for barter and shit.
And then how to defend those gardens from the invaders and hungry neighbors? Can't be out there patrolling with a gun 24/7.
