My friend who's actually training to be a pastor said that and it made me think lol. My immediate reaction was "ew" but it's an interesting argument I never heard before.

While both involve some level of surrendering personal autonomy, submitting to a spouse versus a government are vastly different.
Submission to a spouse should be based on trust, communication, and equality, but submission to a government is rooted in compliance with legal and social norms.
The government social norms are trying to validate things that go against God, like transgenderism, and genital mutilation of children.
Ask your friend: "If you married such a woman, and had a little boy, who got caught up in the LGBT delusion the government is sanctioning, and wanted to chop his penis off and become a little girl, and your wife wanted to do it too, would you also follow along or would you take charge and say 'no' to desecrating your child that God knit together?"
If your friend says they'll do as the child wishes, as the government sanctioned, or as his wife wants: tell them they need to find a better profession because they're going to be blind, and leading others to catastrophe.
