As of 19 Feb 2024, there are a total of 35 different aircraft in the Marine One fleet, including 19 helicopters that are used as "Marine One." One helicopter carries the president, while the others serve as decoys.2 As a security measure, Marine One often flies in a group of as many as five identical helicopters, shifting in formation to obscure the location of the president. Marine One is equipped with standard military anti-missile countermeasures such as flares to counter heat-seeking missiles and chaff to counter radar-guided missiles, as well as AN/ALQ-144A infrared countermeasures.1 Marine Corps plans call for a fleet of 23 VH-92s, including 17 production helicopters, four for training, and two test aircraft. The final version of the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act funds five "VH-92A Executive Helos" at $589 million of an initial Defense Department request of $610 million.
