The Chinese have been forging phoney Morgan dollars for years-I remember about 12-15 years ago at the flea market someone was selling key year Carson City Morgans-there was a few problems: they were lighter, they would jump to a magnet. I suspect now, they may have bought up junk 90% coins to melt to proper blanks and punch them out like cookies using an antique stamping press...
BTW, many of the buyers had them confiscated by LEOs.
