In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Plant medicine is discussed here pretty frequently. I’m not an expert, heck I don’t even have books, yet. I have a lot of herbal tea and loose herbs. A few days ago I started drinking ginger, raw honey, lemon and garlic water. Yesterday my lightbulb went off and I remembered some herbs that have vitamin c. I love the red herbal teas: hibiscus, rose hips and raspberry leaf. Late yesterday made infusions, tea but sits longer for more impact. Lemon balm and the red teas then mixed it with the lemon ginger & herb water. I started drinking it late yesterday afternoon and kept a mug beside me all night. I still haven’t slept in the bed since 1/31/24 because if I barely recline the coughing attack starts. Can’t even sleep laying back in recliner. When I woke up this morning I was at least 60% better. Right now I feel like I’m 75% better. I’m not posting for sympathy.
I’ve been on carnivore since 12/27 and that means no plants. I stopped drinking herbal tea because I wanted to give no plants a chance because experts say they are toxic. I don’t believe plants are toxic. Medicinal plants are healing. I do believe we have allergies to certain plants and it’s going to be different for each person. I’ve had some fruit and vegetables that didn’t bother me and others made my stomach hurt for hours. I’m glad I figured this out because this concoction is really helping.
Can you link to some videos of experts explaining plants are toxic? I have watched so many of those videos, and they all say that plants are toxic if the oxylates keep accumulating over decades, only if you eat like multiple servings of cabbage / potatoes etc.
From what I have gathered, having herbal teas or even various herbs in moderate portions are not toxic, even according to most carnivore experts. Infact, cutting them off completely will require you to carefully regulate vitamins and minerals very carefully.
I can link several videos explaining the carnivore diet, however they just keep saying they are toxic. Nothing to back it up. Some claim there isn’t back up because studies are only paid for when they know they have a prescription to sell. That I believe. Why do studies on herbs when that’s your competition. I also believe they are talking more of vegetable plants than herbs. However strict carnivore, the lion diet is zero plants.
I agree with you about herbal teas and vitamins. Most people in USA don’t drink herbal tea. I can’t imagine many starting carnivore would know anyone that drank tea. I don’t know anyone that drinks tea or knows about natural medicine. Maybe it’s my rural area and most people drink more soft drinks than water.
I’m not sure if this is the correct video. I’ve watched so many. I believe it was Dr Chaffee and Dr Ken Berry. I got interested after watching Jordan Peterson tell his journey on carnivore.

Correct, most carnivore videos don't provide sources. After prodding people again and again, this is the best video I got. Its by Sally Norton, who is respected in Carnivore community.
This is a great video for many reasons, it explains their own experience in medical college and how rotten to the core it is. But in addition, she does a great job explaining what exactly it means when you say plants are toxic. Its definitely worth watching.
In a recent conversation with a friend, who is a staunch carnivore for more than 6 months, and who has had fantastic outcomes from this diet, he finally agreed with me that indeed plants are toxic only when consumed in great quantities. He also agreed that the benefits he is seeing is because of cutting down carbs, and increasing the meat and animal fat intake, but not because of cutting plants completely.
I myself have increased my meat intake, especially fatty meat, and cut down on carbs, but still eat plenty of fruits and veggies.
I personally dont judge any diet except vegan, but I do like to point this out to people embarking on carnivore, because no matter what they decide, it never hurts to have more information to back that decision than less.
If you add turmeric to this list, your immune system will be top class!
I have turmeric capsules and tea. I don’t take it regularly. It doesn’t agree with me. It’s a big detox for me. I have been taking it while I was but not every day. Most people use it for pain and I’ve taken if for months noticed no improvement. My body likes ginger better.
