A couple of points: Charisma is extremely important when it comes to leading a country. Not just being elected, but holding any form of leadership over a military and representation of your country on the global stage.

Additionally, "charismatic politicians" aren't ass holes.

Politicians are ass holes. It doesn't matter whether they're charismatic.
