Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I doubt anyone wondered where I was today. I’ve had my face in my phone way too much! My brain is freaking exhausted! Still trying to find a non toxic dish cleaning liquid or bar. I think I’ve found two made by well known companies that might be potentials. I’ve found many made by small business soap makers. Thankfully while researching last week a shop owner put a disclaimer on the description. If you have hard water you will get spots on the dishes. It’s from essential oils and natural cleaning ingredients. I’m not that picky and probably wouldn’t care. It puzzled me so I sent a message for more information. She said in body soap etc you want the essential oils left on your skin. Hard water causes EOs and other natural ingredients to stick on dishes and you don’t want to consume it. I don’t think I have hard water. A friend is getting it tested for free. After I get the test back hopefully I can get the handmade dish soap bar.
Some information about researching products today, especially those marketed as green or clean. When you see blog after blog approving of the exact same products, probably owned by big brands, that’s a big red flag. Today nobody gives out advice without getting paid. It’s every where! YouTube, influencers, mom blogs and opinion blogs run by big media companies. One example is Branch Basics house cleaning & laundry products. They all offer a discount code for this brand. No different than the Kardashians saying vitamins are amazing. Branch basics seems pretty good but it has one or two ingredients that cause skin irritation. Today I washed two dishes with dawn and my hands felt like they were on fire and pink. I know I can wear gloves. Nope, reusable gloves might have bacteria from your wet hands.
Long story longer, I almost have a chemistry degree just from researching ingredients. Flash backs to learning periodic table of the elements.
If you are interested in going down the rabbit hole or just trying to clean up the nasty products in your home this site has a good description of common ingredients.
