EDIT: Sitting* president
That's what Impeachment is. But what of acts that are uncovered AFTER the president leaves office?
I think you are missing the point, entirely. DJT isn't guilty of any of the so-called crimes that they are charging him with. But that's an issue of the Justice System.
You seemed to be all reeee'd up because they are attacking your (and mine) favorite president. But these attacks are all actually helping Trump, don't you realize?
The position you are taking is one that ultimately says, GW Bush, B. Obama, so what if they betrayed their oath, committed crimes during their time in office? They should be immune!
The point is, the issue of presidential immunity needs to be clarified. If the SCOTUS clarifies that any action taken by a president in the course of executing his official duties is immune, that's an important win. If SCOTUS clarifies, further, that immunity only extends to official acts and duties, then that leaves Obama, Bush and other previous presidents exposed and potentially liable, because the acts they committed that contravene their oath, etc, they should be liable for that.
