As a manager that almost got attacked by a customer that got his tiny tip thrown at him in his car window. I told her if she ever did that again it would be her last day. I was outside smoking when I saw what she did, she then RAN back into the restaurant, leaving me sitting there to face him. I then had to run, this guy was raging mad. It is just not worth it. When I was a server I hated working Sundays, because in our area the church goers would tip very little if any. I am a Christian and was called out for working on a Sunday, I told them that it was them that made us have to work. I now never ask anyone to work on Sunday, I eat at home, do not go shopping or visit any business on Sunday.
I also worked Grave yard for many years and the Gay bunch that came in deffended me from any threats made. They tipped great and also stood at the door after the bar rush to make sure everyone paid.
I loved being a server and quit management several times to go back to serving. I like to play with peoples heads or just play with my fun customers. I sat on a guys lap one time and asked his wife if he always had this much trouble making decisions, the entire table of 10 laughed and all gave an affirmative answer. I got up the guy laughed and said "everyone says the Prime rib is great so I will have that". So I turned to his wife and said how does he want it cooked. The whole night that table was fun, and they left a $100 tip. I served the gang members and got really great tips--one guy asked me why I wasn't afraid of them, I said "because you are sitting down with your pants half off and I can run faster than you". The table of 4 laughed and quit acting up, I gave them the best service I could, offering extras without being asked, like ranch dressing to dip their fries in. They became my regulars and tipped really great.
Oh adding that if I go into a restaurant I get bad service from new servers because they glance at me and see homeless woman or poor. The more educated servers know not to judge. I tip pretty good almost every time and my clothes if you look further are pretty pricey. I just like Boho style
Although I did hold some titled positions, lead server, certified trainer, etc., (along with the extra hourly wage they brought), I made a conscious decision not to go into managment. I loved serving and working directly with the people, yeah, some guests were assholes, but that's part and parcel of anything. My humor made me great tips! I was constantly being told I should go to an open mic night somewhere! 😄
God bless regulars, they kept you afloat, especially on the slow days. And the Christmas tips, mucho $$$$$$! Working in restaurants was so much fun and never boring. 😂
When people lack the truth they either live in pride or condemnation. Either they believe they their works save them and are prideful or they fail in their own works and live in condemnation. GOD SAYS BE STRONG IN GRACE!!!
