Both sides of my family have soldiers and Generals who fought to gain freedom from England during the revolution. I am so proud of their effort, but feel so lost for letting their hard work slip away. Communism has been insidious and I dropped the ball in my generation. I could cry right now :-(

My 7th GF was promoted from enlisted to officer at Valley Forge by George Washington himself. He was 50! He was part of the German speaking forces that fought with the patriots. His father came to the new world in 1710. My history is thick. 50 plus relatives fought in the Civil War on both sides.
That’s amazing! Someone mentioned above that this is a reason maybe we all feel connected here - our own blood ancestors fought for this concept and concocted the most beautiful form of government. If only we can keep it …
It is fun to trace family roots. Here is a pro hack: Ancestry.com is a paid for platform, but owned by the LDS Church. They have a free website - familysearch.org.
