I had a cat like that. Turns out he wanted to play or get attention in the hours between 2:00 and 3:30am. The cry of "I'm starving, so wake up and feed me" was a ploy. My DH and I learned to shut our bedroom door and we wore earplugs for about a week and a half. Worked like a charm. No more wails at that hour. That and our cat found a truly starved stray kitten and adopted it for us a few months later. They would race around all night and sleep most of the day. I really miss those 2 buggers. 15 and 17 are good cat years to live out.
Guess you could call me a conservative cat lady. But I have had and love doggies too.

Thanks for sharing your cat story. Now I miss your cats. Tomorrow I'm playing with the Furball.
