I'll never forget this one. I was in charge of delivering the winnings of a raffle by a charitable organization. I knew the lady who won it. Apparently one of her sons bought the ticket for her. At first she didn't believe me and then broke down and cried saying she can now pay her property taxes for that year. That was in the 80"s.
Half my house payment is taxes and insurance, with both going up every year. Even if I paid it off I'd still have payments.
It's almost like we don't really own anything.
