My job was eliminated a few months ago. I've had a couple great opportunities that didn't come through. Had a couple contract gigs that I started, and for pre-existing reasons were cancelled within my first week. I went from two locked-in options and two contract backups to nothing in a 6 week period.
I'm fortunate that I had surgery to fix a major long-standing medical problem early last year, and I am beyond grateful that the surgery was successful and was done under my then-employer's insurance.
At the moment I'm struggling to mentally recover from the four lost options and to get traction on restarting the search. I have been through this before, and God has always put me in a better place. I'm trying to stay positive, but could really use this community's support.
Saint Joseph is the Patron of work and labor, and of the family, so of course the family needs work and income! I suggest to pray for his help and trust in him, to turn away all anxiety, knowing that your endeavors will lead you to something so that you may earn your living in dignity. Just don't know when, do we?
Spouse-anon was unemployed a couple times, for many months. I was not anxious, nor did I fear, b/c I knew he was trying his BEST to find something! and I turned the rest over to St. Joseph.
One thing I learned, is that opportunities which don't come to pass, at least give hope in the mean time! . . . until the next opportunity, which may or may not come to pass, giving hope anew until something suitable DOES come through!
Bless you and your endeavors, fren!
Thank you. I pray to St Joseph every day. I’ve prayed the rosary daily for a long time. I was in a pretty unhappy place in my prior job, so I’m very open to what God has in store for me next.
I like your perspective on the opportunities that didn’t pan out. I hadn’t thought of them as gifts to keep me sane!
May dear St. Joseph, Patron of our Church, Patron of work and labor, Patron of the family, intercede for you! All you want is decent work to provide for your family.
I found the thirty day prayer to St. Joseph efficacious. The prayer for thirty days. I have done it several times, but not lately. Thank you for reminding me!
Once when spouse-anon was unemployed for some no few months, I thought to hold a Saint Joseph's Table on his feast day. Complete with traditional recipes such as St. Joseph's beard, I can't remember all those great recipes and dishes. I thought: St. Joseph I will hold this St. Joseph table if you find work. NO I decided, I will hold the St. Joseph table regardless! I invited teachers and parents and neighbors and friends.
Turns out, we got a contract for $700 out of the blue from one of the friends invited! Later when my brother was unemployed, I passed the $700 on to him and explained why.
I learned to trust St. Joseph.
