If it were a solar flare, I could understand. The eclipse is literally just the moon passing in front of the sun for a bit. This type of response doesn't make the slightest bit of sense
It does if the DS wants to use it as an excuse to set off a FF event and try to blame some 'crazy religious zealot'.
