Market is controlled by couple of entities and their algos but you can't just start selling everything. If I remember correctly the negative crude oil price started by bombing of fields in middle east. The damage was quite negligible but it caused huge reversal in crude oil markets and to go nuts in the end.
You can see the lights go out and then come back on a few seconds before impact (after it was too late to adjust headings).
