I think this is exactly for that. When they come to round up the guns, they don’t want people to be able to claim “oops, sorry but my gun(s) were lost/stolen.”
If you own a gun or guns and someone is able too steal any it would be in your best interest to report it as stolen, otherwise you will be a suspect for what every crime was committed.
What if the government had 24 hours to report any thefts out of the evidence room?
