My daughter lives in Marble Falls, Texas north of Austin. Ground zero for great viewing in Texas. The town and surrounding area only have about 20,000 population. They expect 300,000 people to arrive for the eclipse.
Roads, stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc... aren't built for that amount of people.
Locals were told to get any groceries by Thursday night (yesterday) or forget it. She went to HEB grocery on Wednesday afternoon and it took 3 hours to get out of the store. Everything was flying off the shelves. People were grabbing food faster than it could be restocked. It was madness, but at least they got what was needed. By this weekend, the stores will be packed, and long lines everywhere.
They were told to get gasoline and fill up all cars & gas cans by Thursday night, don't expect gas to be available again until next Wednesday. If you find a gas station open, expect a mile long line and hours wait time. She is staying at home on Monday, not driving anywhere.
It's stupid. I'm staying in Houston and will see 90% of eclipse. That's good enough for me. No lines, no crowds, no chaos.

And looks like those 300,000 people will be staring at clouds.
