I don't know why these stores don't implement a new security protocol that will pay for itself in no time. It will stop shoplifters and encourage real shoppers to patronize them and shop there without fear. See suggestions below:
Hire armed, off-duty trained cops (at least two at all times) to man the entrance doors to the store.
Signs shall be posted that say, "No hoodies, No face masks, No weapons! Identity must be confirmed before entering with photo ID. No exceptions!"
And another sign that says, "Full time security officers are armed and will protect the store and its paying patrons!"
Add an additional outside electric door with security bars all around that is at least ten feet from the inside door that allows actual entry to the store. (Similar to what you see in jewelry stores.)
Outer and inner doors are to be remotely operated by security persons who will be watching multiple security cameras that can observe those who are approaching.
Once you enter the outside doors, you can be trapped in the 'anteroom' there and prevented from entering the inside doors if security feels you are a threat.
The stores can have a set-up inside the 'anteroom' where the shopper can have their photos taken while displaying photo ID before they are allowed entrance to the store.
Both the outside doors and inside doors should have security bars and have bullet-proof glass on all 4 sides.

Another snag in the chicken coop: any attempt to deal with shoplifters will result in a $18,000 fine... I read it HERE on GAW..
