I had an energy efficient dryer, it too almost twice as long to dry my cloths. I found an old maytag, I had the same model before, someone was getting rid of. It looks like crap but works great.
I used to have to dry clothes sometimes 3 times just to get it remotely close to not being damp, esp in winter. After we managed to get a old model, it takes half the cycle time! AND it starts as soon as you press the button, unlike the newer models that have to boot up before you can use any controls.
My husband rebuilds mine until the seals go on the main drum of the washer/ the bearings go on the dryer. Then, he finds another older model and we do it again. Split agitators rock!
