I have heard conflicting reviews about this movie if it is a woke or leftist movie or not. I was expecting the movie to be a leftist movie where white people are the villains and minorities are the heroes. To be honest, there are no heroes in this movie. It is meaningless killing from beginning to ending. White killing white, Black killing black. Throughout the movie you have no idea the cause of the war. When you see different factions fighting, you rarely have a clue who is on which side. It's just a movie about human beings at their worst.
The movie focuses on a group of photojournalists who are making a journey to Washington dc. Overall, they seem to be amoral as well.
There are a few parts of the movie it seem to try to make us remember the things that makes America as we know it worth keeping.
Although I believe this movie is not leftist, I cannot say that I recommend it. It is a bloody, gritty, violent movie filled with soulless people all on the road to nowhere. I guess it's message was war Hell, hold onto the beautiful America you have. I still rather I hadn't sat through 2 hours of violence and cruelty.
Clarification: “we” is the generic “we” and not saying that all of us support Civil War.
