Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Frens with dogs, what heartworm preventative (and for other worms) do you give your dogs?
I'm still having a hard time deciding what to give my dogs now. Neither one has the MDR1 gene (it was tested when I checked their dna with wisdom panel), so they could safely get Ivermectin, but I'm still having a hard time with dosage and would need to give them something else for other worms that ivermectin doesn't kill.
Does anyone know which ivermectin would be better to give dogs, the cattle injectable or the horse paste?
Fenbendazole (panacur) can handle those other worms, but I've never given any of our dogs fenben before, so I didn't know that it comes in granules for dogs, or paste for horses, I assumed it was in chew pill form like heartworm preventatives. Also are we supposed to give dogs preventatives for other types of worms every month or every few months?
I found this panacur paste for dogs/cats, but directions is to give ... "Each syringe can dose a 9kg animal as a single dose". I have 2 dogs over 90 lbs (94 lbs & 98 lbs), wouldn't I have to give them each like 4 - 5 tubes each of this stuff? Because 9kg is only like 19 - 20 lbs.

Tractor supply has some horse paste panacur and some of the reviewers said it works great for the dogs.

This guy has a YouTube channel called Veterinary secrets
He was just talking about fenbendazole the other day for treating cancer. I’m surprised they didn’t take his video down.
Anyway, he has a free book about health care for animals, and he is not woke. He will definitely have a video of what you should do and how you should treat your dog for worms. Using fenbendazole.
