Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
So someone tossed their Easter present, these girls caught a young bunny and didn't know what to do with the kid. I caved like a big softy and took him home. He's too cute and friendly to eat... so I have a pet rabbit now. Anyone have rabbits here as pets? I read up on them last night but additional advice is welcome.
My dad surprised me with pet rabbits when I was young. It was the most exciting moment until then. There were two of them, really cute with bright red eyes.
The only problem, they would get into anything and dad hated it. So he cleared the small front room and put them there, and close all doors in the night. Sadly one of the ventilation windows was open and a cat got in during the night and killed both.
That was the most traumatic event in my young life until then. So my only advice - dont let the cat get to them.
I operate a zero cat homestead, best case scenario you end up with the smartest cat of the bunch and it still shits on your rug. I have a soft spot to rescue dogs (and apparently a bunny now) but have no problem dropping off kittens at the shelter for single middle aged women to adopt so they can go piss on their empty wine boxes. I have hawks, coyotes, rattlesnakes and even lizards that control rodents. I have a 120lb Rottweiler Shepard mutt that keeps the deer out of the garden/ fruit trees and cats and coyotes out of the yard.
There's no place for felines in my ecosystem. Plus I really enjoy my birds, I have multiple nesting around the property because of the cat free policy. I don't know what I'm gonna do if I have to use my extension ladder though, a couple of sparrows built their nest on top of it hanging in the wood shed... little fuckers.
