Today, I learned that New York has thousands of bodegas. Is the whole state a slum, then?
A bodega is a convenience store. Are convenience stores indicative of being in a slum?
Using Spanish language derived terms for things in this Country is usually indicative of living in a slum. Just like if you call your neighborhood a hood, you're either in a slum, or you belong in one.
Dude I live in a pretty nice area and we still call convenience stores bodegas. You probably gotta let go of your assumptions
NYC is the only area I've heard 'bodega' used.
