Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I don't mean to be rude but when posting a verse from the Bible, it always helps if you say which Bible you pulled the verse from. For instance Proverbs 17:17 in the KJV is stated like this "A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. It is obviously meant to be interpreted literally because that is how God made us, man and woman. We each have a role and this is definitely one of the males.
But I'm not at all sure why you posted this. How does it speak to you?
Any translation is only as good as it accurately represents the original. I intentionally do not site an English reference as it is the readers responsibility to seek truth and accuracy and not trust and place faith in an abbreviation.
I post Scripture because I believe it is God's word and is honorable and beneficial to do so.
This Proverb gives us a characteristic of a friend. I thought it proper to consider in a place of "frens." Also, considering the place of a brother in each of our lives, whether by blood or by bond, he is born for adversity. This is usually taken as he will be a helpful person in a difficult time. It seems reasonable to me that he may also bring adversity at times. Adversity, when taken opportunisticly can be an adversary and strengthen character and build knowledge and then wisdom. Most specifically this is a male role yet in an anon way we are like brothers here. We build up and challenge each other.
I also thought it enjoyable that the reference was a double 17 get.
It ìs my hope that our frien-ships here will be characterized by love and we will challenge and come along side each other to the glory of God as God has spoken to me through that verse.
Very well said. I really appreciate your daily posts with God’s scripture. Very much. please continue to do so. It is such an outreach to this community.
Thanks fren!
