IDK what to believe anymore. I was trying to research this and of course because the billion dollar rehab industry is against it, I'm sus - even though the arguments against are pretty logical.
Anyone have any experience with this personally or with a loved one?
Fun fact, alcoholics anonymous was founded by a guy who was treated for his alcoholism with LSD therapy, back when it was legal.
The effects of LSD are similar to mushrooms in that it lowers the action threshold on neurons so the signal travels in more directions at once, partially bypassing the loops of addiction. Thinking unthinkable thoughts, connecting unconnectable things. Your personality is largely defined by the set of things you don't think. Temporarily lowering those boundaries temporarily weakens or even erases the ego.
But it still requires you to face your demons. It really just makes it harder to hide from them.
After years of researching I think for true alcoholics - not just heavy drinkers but people with a chemical predisposition - figuring out the brain chemistry thing is a huge component. We have already gone down the Vitamin B path and high dosages seem to be helping. The founder of AA apparently also participated in mega Vitamin B dosage in the 50's or 60's and reportedly felt that it did not get enough attention.
Wouldn't wish this disease on my worst enemy. Wouldn't wish my worst enemy to have a loved one afflicted with it either. It is life and soul crushing.
Thank you for sharing...I have heard NAD is quite effective in these cases, not just with alcohol but many other addictions. Something about getting enough ATP into the cells.
