That's an interesting thing your wife said. I have no knowledge of any of that, but I always subscribe to a chemical theory. I think a lot of the chemicals in our surroundings are turning people gay. Cannot be sure but if you live in countries where everything is not mass produced and processed, you hardly find such people.
Legoland doesn't let adults in who aren't bringing in kids because pedos flocked there. Same thing in the Lake Eola park in downtown Orlando. Basically a lake with a park all the way around it. Decades ago they had to close the bathrooms, and they also started sprinklers in the flower beds to keep homeless out of them to sleep. A somewhat gay area just east of the Down Town. They closed the bathrooms because the gays, the homeless, or the gay-homeless were waylaying little boys with glory holes.
North of Orlando Just north of Longwood is a wetlands area part of which is a Park called Big Tree Park, in an area across the highway there are nature trails and mountain bike trails, and now a bike/walk/run/skate trail. Also had major problems.
I'm not sure how pervasive similar situations are in other cities, but IMHO. When Disney first offered Insurance for live ins was the start of a huge increase in pedophelia in Central Fla. When Sheriff Grady Judd said there are always Disney employees mixed in every pedo ring he has busted, its not rhetoric...
They are the true pedo trafficking area. I am sure it was all intentional. I used to live on the west coast, but I was too blind to see much because the Pacific NW, there's not many kids except in their respective neighborhood. People there have more dogs than kids.
While regaining some sanity in the aftermath of the Storm will be true, it will take generations to fix the mess completely.
I'm a tough on crime minded person. I was happy when Fla (I grew up there) passed the law that Capital punishment for child rape, when Idaho became the second state to pass it, bravo! Now the state where I live, Tenn has also passed it, Heck Ya!
Not sure what the numbers are, but a huge portion of the gay community were molested, while a much smaller portion had a bad experience regarding hetrosexual sex, and gay of whatever flavor became the easy orgasim.
So to, start reducing that problem, we need fair but harsh justice.

Thank you. I like the tough on crime also. If adults want to do something, they are welcome to it (none of my business).
Now, kids, different story.
