The number's never truly worked out from its inception. Social Security was doomed to failure before our politicians ever enacted it. The "numbers" used to justify the merits of the system were fantasies, and lies.

The opponents of the Social Security system knew the real numbers, and history has proven those people to be correct- SS is failing right along the timeline originally predicted by opponents of the system. It is an economic ticking time-bomb scheduled to detonate within the next ~20 years, or so.
