I'd suggest some Sun Tzu level shit would be to remain formless until you absolutely must take a form, because how can you really attack or defend against his VP pick if he hasn't made one yet? And you'd probably be helping him if you preemptively started attacking possible choices because then he'd get to see how those attacks play out and what is or isn't landing.
