Why hasn't something like Q happened before? Part of it's technology certainly, but the techniques for keeping us controlled are ancient, so why hasn't any sort of attempt been made before? Even a failed one?

Something happened that's never happened before. Someone decided something that no one has decided before. Someone has done something that has never been done before.

They always thought you'd follow the stars, and they always thought he'd be one. How early do you think the control system identifies an upcoming star? And what if that upcoming star were also a literal genius? What if he said, "No, actually, I don't want fame. I can be really successful without it being handed to me."

Something no one else would say. The control system couldn't let one of the world's most attractive, charismatic, and intelligent men walking around outside their control. He might get REALLY popular. He might challenge them. They'd have to kill (assassinate) him. But what if they tried and it didn't work?
