If you've ever been thrre, you would realize this is not the bridge you would take out if your intent was to disrupt commerce or cut off evacuation route. Mostly just Texas A&M campus, some vacation rentals and a small park. Bridge connects Pelican island to Galveston but does not cross entrance to Galveston Bay.
Being a barge you would think it would be in the commercial channel of the intercoastal waterway.
One would think - the article did not say how or why the barge was there - it was obviously NOT where it should be based on the pics - way too close to shoreline. Maybe it broke lose and drifted, maybe pilot error (pretty egregious if so).
Arent barges typically towed? Im trying to recall the many barges Ive seen go by my condo in Florida. Now these arent on the intercoastal they are on the Atlantic but I seem to recall 3 or 4 barges all being towed at once. My fuzzy memory is because that typically isnt what I am focusing on while sitting on the balcony watching the beach with a cocktail in my hand if ya know what I mean.
