Open an trading account with someone like Fidelity. Can do it all online. Then fund it by making a deposit via wire or ETF or linking an existing bank account and transferring some money into it. Once you have an account set up, buying stock is fairly easy as long as you know what stock symbol you want to obtain.

Yeah this is solid advice.
Also if you want to avoid short-term capital gains taxes if that's a thing in Canada, look into a Roth IRA. If you purchase your shares in that you can buy sell and trade your stocks in there with no tax penalties you just can't withdraw it until you're 59 and a half.
