16th century seems to be the start, possibly basing itself on older traditions, especially within the background of Ignatio de la Loyola. (Juan Velázquez de Cuéllar, treasurer (contador mayor) of the kingdom of Castile where he grew up)
Islam is around since say the beginning of the 7th century ( 622 flight to Medina). Point in fact is the early period of 600 - 950, the pre-Quranic period, so to speak, as then only phrases were available, written on camels asses and for the first time: written on Mosque walls ( Jerusalem).
I am sure, the Jesuits have played and are playing a role. But it is in my view indefensible to tie the Jesuits to the emergence of Islam in the time frame indicated: 600 -950.
