Not quite. Two candidates can run if they are from the same state, but it would be stupid - not illegal. The electors from each state vote for 2 people - a candidate for president and a candidate for vp. If the 2 candidates are both from the same state the electors can't legally vote for both, so they would only get half of the electoral votes from Florida if all the electors cast their vote for Trump. Florida has 30 electoral votes, so Trump could theoretically lose 15 if his running mate was also from Florida.
What is interesting is this nearly happened in Bush v Gore because Cheney was a Texas resident just before he became the running mate. They figured it out and Cheney changes his residency back to Wyoming (he was a WY Rep). He sold his TX house, went to WY, got a WY driver license, and his vacation home he kept became his official residence. Problem solved.
So - if Trump wanted Byron Donalds he could simply move into Bedminster in NJ or back to Trump Towers in NYC, although they would surely go after him in NYC.
Note to President Trump - I have a spare room in Texas...
