I’ve been mostly jokingly saying I want to run for mayor of my hometown. Now it’s starting to become less a joke and more of an ‘I think I should’ kind of thing. But I don’t want to lost my humanity and become subhuman trash like every other politician.

Through moral toughness, and support from your family and others, and I would add lots of prayers, you CAN remain as you are now. There have been a few politicians that remain uncorrupted. Do it!
